The past couple of years have been prolific for FANGE, with two full-lengths and one EP showing a band in perpetual motion. On “Pantocrator”, their new studio release, the french trio stays true to their will to approach every record differently, embracing longer formats with these two nerve-wracking 15 minutes tracks written during summer 2020. Recorded and mixed by Cyrille Gachet (Year Of No Light, Verdun, Chaos Echoes) then mastered by Alan Douches (Converge, Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan), “Pantocrator” stands as FANGE’s most ruthless-sounding work to date, their switch to drum machines strengthening the impact of their unmerciful sludge / death riffing and noise / industrial deflagrations. These tracks also mark a natural evolution for the band by submerging post-punk-influenced guitars and expressive vocals in their cesspool of abrasive tones. A more accessible stance that paradoxically enhances the painful intensity of their sound, as well as establishing the three-piece as an always more singular, elusive entity.
