“I was very young when I saw the 1953 Houdini movie starring Tony Curtis. Houdini became an instant hero for me. Houdini’s likeness or the idea of him, escaping from peril, come up in my work fairly often. There is a story that Houdini’s wife would pass him keys through a kiss to aid his escape. This drawing is of that moment and the deeper symbolism of partnership; to open yourself to another, be vulnerable, placed in peril, to be set free through love and trust.”
